Coach Dick Tomey led the most successful era of Arizona football in the mid-1990s, highlighted by a tenacious defense with one of the coolest nicknames in college football history, “Desert Swarm.” After a 10-win season in 1993 in which they won a share of the Pac-10 title and shutout Miami 29-0 in the Fiesta Bowl, Tedy Bruschi and Co. were ranked No. 1 and on the cover of the 1994 Sports Illustrated college football preview issue, still iconic around Tucson.
